December 1. Page 1. The Birth of A Blog

Happy December! (looks cold where I'm sittin', doesn't it!?!) Wow, has this year just flown by or what!?! It is a sunny (but not warm) day here in Surf City. I am at work (and, as evidenced by this writing, am not totally "focused" on the stack of papers staring up at me from my desk....). This morning, garbed in wool pants and a warm sweater, I added the necessary fashion accessory - one of my hand knit scarves - around my neck to keep out the chill. It is one of my favorites.... made from a fab multi-colored skein that I purchased at a knit shop in Joisey, while I was visiting my brother and his fam over the summer. The shop had only one skein left (with no label (DRAG) so I don't know where to order more.....) and it was carrying a rather hefty $price tag$ ... Even though I wasn't certain that there would even be enough yardage to complete a scarf, I decided to $plurge and buy it anyway (O - such the risk taker....) YAY! I squeezed the scarf out of that skein as I had hoped.... adding the finishing touches of soft fringe and a crochet border. Nice! Hopefully one day I'll find a similar ball of yarn... or, perhaps I'll just have to jet right back to Joisey and visit that store again, just in case they got in a new shipment! (Jeeeeez, I'll use any excuse to get back to the east coast!).

Chocolate Alert! Vosges Haut Chocolat (based in Chicago).... I learned about this dynamic duo about a year ago while watching the Food Channel (The Food Channel + Knitting = Great Relaxation). They combine 'spices' (you know.... like curry, fennel, paprika....) to chocolate with the result being the most incredible truffles you've tasted! While in Vegas over the Thanksgiving holiday, I came upon their newest boutique, located in the new forum shops at Caesars. The sales girls was very generous in doling out 'samples' to me and my friend, Bob..... Who would imagine that white chocolate with extra virgin olive oil and kalamata olives could be.... would be SO DELICIOUS!! If you're looking for a great (and off the beaten path) gift for someone, or simply want to cure your own craving, you might want to check 'em out at

Special Event ~ Hey - if you're looking for a fun way to pass some time this weekend, come by The Stitch Cafe's open house on Sunday! There'll be an international food/dessert buffet, music, and knit items for sale. A % of the proceeds goes to the cancer charity WeSpark! To find out more about the event go to
www.stitchcafe.com. C'mon by.... you'll be glad you did!

A quote for the day ~ Look, I don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colorfully, or you're not alive.
Mel Brooks

Okay..... Now GO make it a GREAT day!
