while helping out at my favorite hang - The Stitch Cafe' - over the weekend, it was an endless flow of customers coming into the shop with beautiful items they were in the process of - or had - completed. i am always so appreciative of another Knitter's work... fully understanding that gratification one experiences when you see a project through to fruition. a woman came in with a baby blanket she had finished and had questions on how to block it. (by th' way.... i might recommend you take a look at Teva Durham's book "Loop d Loop"... and point you in the direction re her philosophy on knitting... and her recommendation re "blocking"... as it might be of help... i tend to agree with her "anti-blocking"approach...)
anyway, what was i saying? OH, the baby blanket .... well, it was the most beautiful, multi colored piece (not a typical pastel pink or blue or yellow blankie for a delicate infant) - this was an absolutely fantastic piece pulling together squared sections of different stitch patterns... and made from Hand Dyed incredible soft Merino wool. With the subtle variations in color and texture only hand dyed yarns have and all the sensuality of a good handspun yarn. A great hand and a pleasure to knit. 100% Pure Merino Wool. Worsted Weight. Kettle dyed, 215 yards per 100 grams skein. Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch, Needle size 7-9 wool found at www.malabrigoyarn.com. you'll be amazed at how soft the wool is.... and the kettle-dyed hanks offer the most incredible array of color selections! check 'em out, you'll be happy you did!
also.... i came upon a very fun book called Knitters', Crocheters', Weavers' & Spinners' Travel Guide 2006. You can purchase it via the publisher's web site http://www.directionpress.com/i know that i'm going to add this to my Knitting library... and it will probably replace, or become a very close cousin to the Thomas Guide in my vehicle!
happy thoughts... and happy knitting!
