I'm Just WILD about HARRY!

HI everyone! YIKES! i can't believe that the summer-time has come to a close and we're headin' into the season of pumkins and candycorn! (Oooooo - Halloween is just about my fave holiday!!)... quite honestly... it was a bittersweet summer for me... having to say goodbye to my sweet hanna in june, i was rather a wreck from that experience (you pet-owners can relate!)... but my spirits took a turn for the better when i adopted Harry in mid-july! and YES, i'm just WILD about him!! harry was found abandoned at a nearby golfcourse back in may of this year... and our paths crossed when i popped in to a local PetSmart during a weekend pet-adoption. i was eyeing a kitten... but when i spotted this grey and white, "bunny fur", one-year-old tabby, trying to burry his head under a towel, to avoid the noise and finger-poking from all of the looky-lews... i decided to take a look at him. at the time, harry was actually tagged as a little girl named "harmony"... in the private viewing room, "she" immediately curled up on my lap, nuzzling "her" head under my arm with a constant, musical purrrrrrrr. i knew right away that "she" was the one for me! i proceeded with the adoption which took a week for the paperwork to be processed, and for the in-home interview by the adoption agency to be completed. the following saturday i was able to bring "harmony" home. within the first half hour in "her" new abode, it was quite evident that "she" was not a "she" at all (and i scratched my head at how the adoption agency could have missed this one!). for as "harmony" walked away from me into another room.... and then plopped "herself" down to begin grooming "herself"... well, let's just say that the not-so-lady-like fashion in which she did was a dead give-away that "SHE" was in fact a "HE"! and with this discovery a name-change was in order... (sorry, but i couldn't continue to call a little boy kitty "harmony"....)... so, figuring that this goofy ball-of-fluff had the ability to switch her gender in the blink of an eye, harmony became Harry (harmony) Houdini, and has been a constant joy ever since! as things began to take a turn for the better with me emotionally, my creative focus proved to get clearer and i've been quite busy on several knitting projects! a few of you have been recipients of some adorable "fetching" wristwarmers made from a pattern found in a recent issue of Knittty (www.knitty.com)... the fingerless gloves are so much fun to make, and were the first project i've done with DPN's (of which i'm now a big fan!). i'm gearing up to start on a debbie bliss sweater (the bag-o-yarn is staring at me and egging me to CAST ON!)... but first i must finish a few smaller projects for some upcoming birthday gifts. i purchased the new book "Knit 2 Together" by Tracey Ullman and Mel Carl (www.wildfiber.com) (a Melanie Falick book) and am thoroughly enjoying the patterns in it! can't tell you which one i'm working on right now, cuz' it's gunna be a gift for a friend who might read this, and i don't want to spoil the surprise! i popped down to Wildfiber in Santa Monica after receiving my copy of the book and met the store's owner, Mel Carl. i was so jazzed to see several of the items included in the book on display! the pictures in the book are great, but to see the pieces in 3-D was even better! needless to say... with the library i've begun, i'm certainly not at a loss for knitting projects... in fact, i've had to put myself on a "restricted yarn-purchasing budget" because my stash is getting a bit out of control! too many things i want to make and not enough time! i'm just so happy that we're heading into autumn... and i'm looking forward to spending some of my free time on the weekends sitting in my beach chair looking out over the cliffs in malibu while knitting away and enjoying the arrival of the new season! i look towards autumn and hope for a productive, positive, healthy, happy season... for all! until next time... happy thoughts... and happy knitting. love.leigh (and harry, too!)
