2-Sided Scarf

happy weekend! hope yours is going nicely... it was a beautiful, sunny saturday here in surf city... perfect for the first weekend of the new year! where did i spend my day? silly questions! the majority of my minutes were spent seated in the cozy corner of the sofa in the bay window at Stitch Cafe' where i worked on my mother's belated Christmas gift - a 2-sided scarf. yes, yes.... all scarves have two sides.... but depending on the pattern, some only show the pattern on the right side... and are nothing much to look at on the wrong side (or back)... the one i'm making shows the identical pattern on both... and what a fun pattern it is! fun, because it looks like a lot more work than it is! (knitters love the gratification of making something that actually appears more complicated than it really is!)... this pattern creates a seed-stitch border, and then a 28-row pattern of knit/purl stitch combinations that you repeat to the desired length and that actually resemble cables! i'm afraid my 2 photos of the work in progress don't clearly translate the pretty ribbon-twist effect - but trust me, this is quite a nice piece, and a nice choice if you're wanting to make a gift for someone! i'm using a rowan wool/silk yarn (in my mother's favorite color)... and adjusted the pattern to get the proper width (which meant going up one needle size and adding a 4th column to what the pattern calls for. if you're interested in knitting this up and would like the pattern, drop me a comment... i'm happy to share! thankfully, i'm just about finished with the scarf, coming to the end of ball #3 of the 4 that the pattern requires... quite hopeful that sunday will be the date of completion, as i'd like mom to get some wear time with it before spring arrives! and here in california, that could be any day now! so, with that in mind, i'd better get back to it!.... but not without wishing you happy thoughts... and for those who carry bamboo needles in their purse... happy knitting.... from love.leigh.knitz n' harry-cat...
