happy 4th of July! july? JULY??!?!! where'd june go? just a minute ago it was summer solstice.... wasn't it? and now, we're clear into the high season of bbq's... beach walks and sunburn! (i just love the scent of baked-on-coppertone, don't you?!)the holiday fireworks are due to start bursting in the sky in about 45 minutes... as soon as the last streaks of pink fade from the night sky. the local high school down the road does a spectacular show... and the great thing is, i can view the festivites right from my back yard! how nice, right! no crowds... no holiday traffic jams... nope, just a cumfy chair... poolside... looking up to the sky...
it's been awhile since i've stopped by the ol' blog-site... and, as you might expect, i've been keeping busy with the yarn n' stix! happy to say that a few projects have been completed... ahhhhh, so rewarding! the cute little cocktail capelette pictured over there, it's from a recent Interweave Knits mag... knitted with Debbie Bliss 100% cashmere... in "turtle-egg blue" ... i just LOVE IT! the perfect shoulder warmer for the evenings here in surf city - and at work where the a/c creates a blustery wind in my cube-away-from-home.the "divine" sweater is nearly ready to wear as well! Yippee! the dear and ever talented naomi at Village Knitter neatly sewed the shoulder seams together -- (she does such an incredible job that i figure, why mess with perfection!) -- i then added the button hole band on the right/left front panels... and the ruffle band that goes around the neck shaping. oh... it's so close to being a wearable piece! now i just need to get it back in naomi's hands so that she can sew the sleeves in and sew up the side seams and then... TAH DAH, it will be a "divine" sweater! YAY!
in-between the major knitting projects, i've been making up some cute little chenille washcloths (the pattern can be found in Weekend Knits - another fave book of mine!)... the soft chenille flowers are probably too cute to really use.... (i don't think make-up stains would be a nice addition to the pattern... hand dyed is one thing... but mascara blotches... no, i don't think so...) but i thought they'd make nice additions to some gift bags i've been preparing with soaps n' lotions n' such for some girlfriends this summer. ever so excited to cast on a new project, today i started the "pea pod cardigan" from Knit2Together... i LOVE this sweater pattern -- (not to mention the entire pattern book!) -- it will be another nice light-weight piece to wear this season. though i had planned to make this my "vacation project" to knit while sitting beside Lake Caroga in Upstate NY next month... when Mr. UPS showed up to my door, a box of RCY cashcotton 4-ply in hand... well, what can i say?... i'm just a kid in a candy store when it comes to yarn.... in the blink of an eye i was casting-on! (U.S. #1 ..... Ahhhhhhhh!).
generously, the company i work for gave us an extended holiday weekend... 5 days off... in a row! Whooooo Hoooo! and i expect to spend a good portion of it with my friends at stitch cafe and village knittery... the temps are out of control here... so it's either the beach... the pool... or a room with air conditioning, good friends, and yarn!
hope you're having a SWELL holiday weekend! remember... don't run with sparklers :o)
